Syrian government, opposition exchange shelling in Syria’s northwest
IDLIB, Syria (North Press) – On Sunday, the de-escalation zones in northwest Syria witnessed the continuation of mutual bombardment between opposition groups and Syrian government forces in Idlib and Aleppo countryside.
Military sources in the opposition told North Press that the government forces, targeted sites of opposition groups in the towns of Maart Balbit and the outskirts of al-Bara in Zawiya Mountain in the southern countryside of Idlib, with heavy artillery and rocket launchers.
The sites of the opposition groups near the village of Tadil in the western countryside of Aleppo were subjected to mortar shelling, while no casualties reported, according to the same sources.
The bombing coincided with intense flight of Russian warplanes and reconnaissance aircraft over the countryside of Idlib, Hama, Latakia and the countryside of Aleppo, with no casualties reported.
In response to the bombing of the government forces, Fateh al-Mubin Operations Room, which includes Hayat Tahrir al-Sham and the Army of Glory (Jaysh al-Izza), as well as the National Liberation Front affiliated with the National Army, announced the targeting of military sites of the Syrian government forces near the town of Dadikh in the eastern countryside of Idlib.
In the morning, at least five government members were killed, and others were wounded, after their sites were targeted in the village of al-Fatatrah in Jabal Shashabo, south of Idlib.
The military escalation comes within the de-escalation zone, between the government forces and pro-Turkish opposition groups, despite the validity of the ceasefire agreement, which has entered its second year.
