Syria’s AANES sets price of wheat and barley crops

RAQQA, Syria (North Press)On Wednesday, the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria  (AANES) set the purchase price for wheat and barley crops for the current season.

The AANES priced one kilogram of wheat at 1,115 Syrian pound (SYP), while a kilogram of barley was priced at 850 SYP.

This morning, a meeting was held in the Autonomous Administration building in Raqqa, in the presence of the Economic and Agricultural Board, the AANES Executive Council, the Agricultural Society Development Company, and the Farmers’ Union.

The co-chair of the Economic and Agriculture Board, Salman Barudo, said at the meeting that determining the pricing of wheat and barley came to achieve self-sufficiency for the region by receiving the largest possible quantity of wheat, which is considered one of the most important strategic materials.

He added that by determining the price of wheat and barley crops, they took into account the general conditions of the current season and what the region is going through such as drought, lack of rain, and the decrease in the irrigated areas.

In a previous statement to North Press, Barudo said, wheat production of this season will not exceed 400,000 tons, which is equivalent to two-thirds of the region’s annual need, according to reports from economic bodies and committees in the Autonomous Administration regions.

According to the Autonomous Administration, its areas annually need between 500 and 600 thousand tons of wheat as stock allocated for flour and seeds.
