Syria’s Autonomous Administration approves media law

HASAKAH, Syria (North Press) – On Tuesday, the General Council of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES) approved the Media Law, after working on it for more than a year and a half.

“The draft law included the opinions of most journalists and media institutions operating in the region, and the council approved it after making very minor amendments,” Amer Murad, co-chair of the AANES Media Office, said on the AANES official website.

“The law includes seven chapters and 14 articles, and it is a legal basis to deal with journalists and media institutions operating in northeastern Syria,” he added.

In September 2020, a specialized committee was formed to prepare the law, which, after the end of its work, organized sessions with journalists and media workers to discuss the draft law.

In general, the law includes the rights and duties of the media outlets and journalists working in the Autonomous Administration areas.
