Healthcare worker: Coronavirus curve flattering in Syria
DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) – A member of the government team concerned with dealing with coronavirus said in a statement to North Press that the curve of coronavirus infections in Syria is flattening and declining, but he warned of the possibility of a fourth wave.
The worker, who asked not to be named, stated that the reason for this is due to “people’s awareness and commitment to preventative measures, or God’s will, and not because of the start of vaccination, as it is still in its early stages.”
On Sunday, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights cited medical sources who stated that government-held areas had recorded about 89,000 new coronavirus infections during the past few days.
However, official statistics of the Ministry of Health show a marked decrease in the number of infected people in the areas government-held areas.
He also added that there is fear of a fourth peak, especially after confirmed cases of the Indian strain of the virus were recorded in Jordan, and the possibility of its transmission to Syria through mutual visits.
According to the statistics of the Ministry of Health, the total toll of the infections in the government-held areas has come up to 23,738, including 1,698 deaths and 20,780 recoveries.
