Activists in Kurdistan’s Erbil show solidarity with Baghdad fire victims
ERBIL, Iraq (North Press) – On Sunday, a group of activists and an NGO showed solidarity with the victims of Ibn al-Khatib Hospital in Baghdad through a statement from Erbil Citadel in the Kurdistan Regional Government capital (KRG) Erbil.
Late on Saturday, a fire broke out in Ibn al-Khatib Hospital in the Iraqi capital Baghdad inside a floor dedicated to coronavirus patients.
”82 died and more than 110 were wounded in the hospital fire,” spokesman for Iraq’s interior ministry Khalid al-Muhanna said.
The statement called for holding the perpetrators accountable for the incident, adding, ”we ask to open an investigation. We, the people of Erbil; our hearts go with the victims of Baghdad.”
The statement referred to the position of the presidency of the KRG that ”the doors of the hospitals are and houses are open for the families of the victims.”
