US expresses support for northeast Syria

HASAKAH, Syria (North Press) – On Thursday, the US Deputy Special Envoy for Syria, David Brownstein, expressed his country’s support for the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES).

Brownstein’s statement came to North Press, on the sidelines of his meeting with the AANES co-presidency in the city of Hasakah, northeast Syria.   

“Fiscal transparency, good governance and truly democratic inclusion are the keys to stability in northeast Syria,” Brownstein said.

“We support the Self Administration and all parties in northeast Syria as they work towards these goals,” he added.

For her part, co-chair of the AANES Executive Council, Berivan Khaled, said that their meeting with the American ambassador dealt with all the issues of the region and on all levels, political, military and economic.

Khaled stressed that the economic situation and the living conditions the region is going through, were the most prominent discussion during the meeting.  

They also touched on coronavirus and the World Health Organization’s failure to respond to the regions of northeastern Syria.

Khaled indicated that the US Deputy Envoy expressed the United States’ support for the Autonomous Administration in a stronger way and for staying in the region for the longest possible period, and defending the administration’s project.

She mentioned that they discussed with the US ambassador how to protect the region from disasters as the agricultural season approaches.
