Iranian-backed group arrives in Syria’s Palmyra

PALMYRA, Syria (North Press) – A group of the Iraqi Harakat Hezbollah al-Nujaba, backed by the Iranian Revolutionary Guard, arrived in Palmyra, in central Syria, from the countryside of Deir ez-Zor.

The group, which consisted of 35 members with their field equipment, was seen on the Deir ez-Zor-Palmyra road, amid security crackdowns by the Fatemiyoun Brigade and Iraqi Hezbollah checkpoints in the vicinity of Palmyra city.

The group settled in the locations of the Fatemiyoun Brigade and the Iraqi Hezbollah in the Jamiat district, the stronghold of the groups, backed by the Revolutionary Guards in Palmyra, in the Syrian Desert.

The group will temporarily settle in the sites and camps of the Fatemiyoun Brigade and Iraqi Hezbollah in Palmyra and its environs during this period, Fatemiyoun Brigade member Hassan al-Karrar told North Press on Saturday.

Harakat Hezbollah al-Nujaba will establish new positions in Palmyra and its nearby villages and towns during the coming period, with the aim of increasing the protection of the area and the points and locations of the groups supported by the IRGC, according to al-Karrar.

This is the first time al-Nujaba will have a presence in the Syrian Desert, with the aim of increasing the influence of the Fatemiyoun Brigade and Iraqi Hezbollah in the region, according to the source.
