Turkish-backed armed groups target government positions in Syria’s Idlib

IDLIB, Syria (North Press) – On Thursday, Turkish-backed armed groups bombed the positions of Syrian government forces in the southern countryside of Idlib.

Fateh al-Mubin Operations Room, which includes Hayat Tahrir al-Sham, Jaysh al-Izza and the National Front for Liberation affiliated with the Syrian National Army, bombed government forces’ positions, according to a local source.

The armed groups targeted the city of Kafr Nabl and al-Malaja village in the Zawiya Mountain area in the southern countryside of Idlib with heavy artillery shells and BM-21 Grad, the source added.

On Wednesday, Turkish forces deployed in the Zawiya Mountain region targeted government forces’ positions in the town of Khan al-Sabl, southeast of Idlib, with heavy artillery shells.

The military escalation comes within the de-escalation zone, despite the entry into force of the ceasefire agreement signed on March 5, after a Russian-Turkish summit, following military escalation in the countryside of Idlib.
