First educational award ceremony in 9 years held in Syria’s Deir ez-Zor

DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – On Monday, the educational office in the towns of Granij and al-Busirah, east of Deir ez-Zor, organized a ceremony to honor top students in the second semester, after nine years with no ceremonial educational events.

Omar Mukhlif al-Othman, the co-head of the educational office in the town of Granij (90 km) east of Deir ez-Zor, said that they honored 160 students who have excelled in primary, middle, and high schools.

The number of students in the educational complex in the town of Granij is 22,000, according to al-Othman.

The aim of honoring students is to encourage them to excel, work hard, and persevere in the pursuit of knowledge, al-Othman said.

Students in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor had not been honored for nine years because of the war and chaos in the region, al-Othman added.

Al-Othman indicated that they have given incentive prizes and gifts to the top students to improve the educational situation in the Autonomous Administration areas.

Al-Othman mentioned that schools in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor still uses the UNICEF curriculum.

In turn, the educational office in the town of al-Busirah, 40 km east of Deir ez-Zor honored 25 outstanding students in the second semester.

The honoring ceremony was held at Khalil al -Khalaf School in the town center. 

On March 11, a ceremony was held to honor outstanding students in the city of Hajin.
