Explosion leaves casualties, wounded in Syria’s Sere Kaniye

AZAZ, Syria (North Press) – On Sunday, six people lost their lives and more than five were wounded in an explosion near the Turkish-backed civil police’s headquarters in the city of Sere Kaniye (Ras al-Ain), north of Hasakah.

“The explosion occurred in al-Sijen (Prison) Street near the civil police headquarters, leaving several casualties and wounded, including children,” an exclusive source told North Press.

The source added that “the reason for the explosion is unknown, and it is most probably due to a VBIED placed near the headquarters.”

On March 7, two members of the Turkish-backed Sultan Malik Shah group were killed when an IED planted in a bike, exploded near the village of al-Salhiya in Sere Kaniye, northeast Syria.

Areas held by Turkish-backed militant groups are witnessing successive explosions, kidnappings against civilians, and intra-clashes.

Turkish forces and opposition groups have controlled Sere Kaniye since the Turkish invasion of northeast Syria in October 2019.
