Russian strikes target opposition sites south of Syria’s Idlib

IDLIB, Syria (North Press) – On Saturday, Russian warplanes launched air strikes on Turkish-backed armed opposition groups’ sites in the southern countryside of Idlib, after a period of relative calm in the region.

Field sources told North Press that Russian warplanes targeted fortifications of armed groups in Harsh Baynin, south of Idlib, and Bakfala village in the western countryside of Idlib, with high explosive missiles.

The Russian strikes coincided with intense shelling of the Syrian government forces on the positions of armed groups in the southern countryside of Idlib and western countryside of Hama, with no causalities reported, according to the sources.

On Sunday, government forces renewed their shelling on the fortifications of the armed groups in the de-escalation zone in the mutual bombardment between the two forces.

A military source told North Press that government forces targeted the opposition sites in the villages and towns of Elzaqum, Duqmak, al-Ziyarah, Tel Wassit in the western Hama countryside with heavy artillery.

The bombardment affected Benin and Nayrab located in the de-escalation zone, south of Idlib, without any causalities reported.
