Clashes erupted between SDF and Syrian government forces east Deir ez-Zor

DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – On Thursday, clashes with light weapons, erupted between the pro-SDF Deir ez-Zor Military Council and members of the Syrian government forces near the town of al-Shuhail on the Euphrates, 40 km east Deir ez-Zor.

“The clashes erupted when members of the Deir ez-Zor Military Council were monitoring the crossings to prevent smuggling operations, while the military points of the Syrian government forces started shooting,” a local source from the town told North Press.

“The SDF members in turn, as a response, burned the river ferries which were in the banks of the Euphrates,” the source added.

On February 25, the SDF commandos raided the river crossings in the towns of al-Shuhail, al-Hawayij and Thiban in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor, where they confiscated three fuel tankers that were prepared to be smuggled to the Syrian government-held areas.
