Syria’s Raqqa residents commemorate 10th anniversary of Syrian war

RAQQA, Syria (North Press) On Monday, dozens of residents in Raqqa, north Syria, took part in a mass demonstration on the 10th anniversary of the start of the Syrian war.

Displaced Syrians from Idlib and other Syrian cities participated in the demonstration alongside the people of Raqqa.

The demonstration was organized by the “Green Idlib” Council affiliated with the Autonomous Administration, a number of civil society activists, and civilians and military figures from Raqqa.

The demonstrators renewed their demands in “toppling the Syrian regime, represented by its president, Bashar al-Assad, and the military and political figures running the country.”

During the demonstration, a statement was read by Mahmoud Habib, the official spokesperson for the Northern Democratic Brigade, affiliated with the Syrian Democratic Forces.

Habib stressed the continuation of the “revolutionary movement in Syria until the fall of the current Syrian government and finding a political solution, based on equality and ensuring the rights of all Syrian communities.”

“The Syrian regime used the dirtiest methods to suppress popular demonstrations during the first years in addition to forming terrorist organizations,” Habib said.

“The most dangerous outcome of these organizations was the Turkish intervention and recruitment of young Syrians into the ranks of the Turkish-backed groups, and engaged them in battles that serve the interests of Turkey in Syria and elsewhere,” he added.
