Shengal Autonomous Administration meets with Iraqi security delegation

ERBIL, KRG, Iraq (North Press) – On Monday, Hasso Ibrahim, co-president of the Autonomous Administration in Shengal, said that one of the main objectives of the Iraqi security delegation’s visit to Shengal is “to meet with us and listen to what we propose for the future of our region.”

On Monday, a security delegation arrived from Baghdad to the Shengal (Sinjar) district in Nineveh Governorate to inspect the security situation.

A security source told North Press that the aim of the visit is to follow up on the security situation, including the agreement that took place between Erbil and Baghdad.

Ibrahim revealed that during the meeting, they discussed the security and administrative situation in Sinjar, and the agreement concluded between the governments of the center and the region was also highlighted.

On October 9, an agreement was concluded between the two parties that included jointly administrating Sinjar, in which it focused on security control in the district.

Following the announcement of the agreement, the Shengal Governing Council declared its rejection of any agreement “unless it represented the will of the people of Shengal,” calling for the will of the residents of the region not to be excluded from any agreement or decision related to their regions.

“We stressed to the delegation that any agreement that takes place without the actual participation of the people of the region is unacceptable and is an exclusion of the people, who sacrificed a lot in the era of ISIS,” Ibrahim added.

Ibrahim indicated that the delegation “praised us and our struggle, and that it (the delegation) would transfer our demands to the prime minister.”

The Autonomous Administration in Shengal presented a package of demands concerning the region, including the recognition of the Autonomous Administration in accordance with the Iraqi constitution.
