Iraqi security delegation to monitor security situation in Shengal

ERBIL, KRG, Iraq (North Press) – On Monday, a security delegation arrived from Baghdad to the Shengal (Sinjar) district in Nineveh Governorate to inspect the security situation.

A security source told North Press that the security delegation includes the Chief of Staff of the Army Lieutenant General Abdul Amir Yarallah, and Lieutenant General Abdul Amir al-Shammari, Deputy Joint Operations.

The delegation also included National Security Adviser Qassem al-Araji, and Hamid al-Shatri, Undersecretary of the National Security Agency.

The security source indicated that the aim of the visit is to follow up on the security situation, including the agreement that took place between Erbil and Baghdad.

On October 9, an agreement was concluded between the two parties that included jointly administrating Sinjar, in which it focused on security control in the district.

Following the announcement of the agreement, the Shengal Governing Council declared its rejection of any agreement “unless it represented the will of the people of Shengal,” calling for the will of the residents of the region not to be excluded from any agreement or decision related to their regions.

“The agreement has not seen daylight yet due to the confrontation and rejection of the residents of the district,” the security source added.
