IDLIB, Syria (North Press) – On Monday, the armed opposition groups refused to open a crossing that the Syrian government had announced the preparations to open it on Sunday, east of Idlib, northwest Syria.
On Sunday, the opposition groups destroyed a government’s military bulldozer while removing the berms, an opposition source said.
On Sunday, pro-government media reported the completion of the preparations for the opening of a humanitarian corridor east of Idlib, with the aim of receiving those wishing to leave the armed groups-held areas in northwest Syria.
In a statement to North Press, the opposition source pointed out that the road leading to the crossing contains dozens of landmines that the government forces or the groups have not worked to remove.
The preparations included equipping an entire medical staff with a mobile clinic and an ambulance, and providing the necessary medical services at the corridor, said Muhammad Nettouf, governor of Idlib, in a statement to the official SANA agency on Sunday.
“The Syrian Arab Red Crescent has prepared teams whose mission will be to provide assistance to those wishing to return,” Nettouf added.
He also indicated that temporary residence centers will be set up in the al-Sabil neighborhood in Hama.
“The regime knows that no one is thinking of returning to the regime-held areas, but it has always sought to promote this idea in the media in order to beautify its image in front of the international community,” the source noted.
