Syrian regime unable to make military decision: opposition expert
IDLIB, Syria (North Press) – “The Syrian regime is unable to make the military decision,” the opposition military expert, Ahmad Rahhal said on Monday.
“The military decision is in the hands of the Russians only, and the reinforcements of the Syrian regime from one place to another do not necessarily mean a military action,” Rahhal added.
Even Iran is unable to wage a military action without Russia’s approval, according to him.
“The Russian-Turkish agreements affect the military ties in the city of Bab. There are agreements between them, which means that Turkey is no longer ready to make any concessions in the area,” Rahhal stated.
He pointed out that the deployment of the Turkish forces, which withdrew from the posts besieged by the Syrian government in areas south M4 Highway, “is a challenge to Russia.”
Following its withdrawal from those posts, Turkey established new posts on frontlines opposite to the government ones south Idlib, he noted.
He believes that Moscow appreciates its ties with Ankara, “and will not destroy them for the sake of a city that is about 500 meters from its areas of control.”
Rahhal’s statement to North Press coincided with the reinforcements that the Syrian government and Russia sent to the outskirts of the city of Bab, east Aleppo, north Syria, amid news about a military operation there.
The Syrian government forces withdrew from the city of Ma’arat al-Nu’man, south Idlib, and areas in the western countryside of Hama heading towards al-Owaisha near the town of Tadif, southeast of the city of Bab, east Aleppo, according to opposition military sources.
