UN warns growing threat against multilingualism
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – On Sunday, the United Nations (UN) warned about the increasing threat against the linguistic diversity as languages die out.
The warning came on the occasion of the International Mother Language Day, which falls on February 21st.
The UN adopted “Promoting multilingualism for inclusive education and integration into society”, as a slogan for the year’s celebration of the International Mother Language Day.
The UN said that 40% of the world’s population does not learn the language they speak or understand.
No less than 43% of the 6,000 languages currently spoken in the world are in the danger of disappearing, according to the UN statement.
