SDF member killed, others wounded in Syria’s Deir ez-Zor

DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – A member of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) was killed and others were wounded on Saturday-Sunday night, after being targeted by unknown persons with medium weapons in the town of al-Busayrah, east of Deir ez-Zor.

Masked armed men attacked an SDF military post in al-Busayrah, killing one SDF member and wounding six others, a military source told North Press.

SDF member Ghanam Fares Balat succumbed to his injuries.

On Friday afternoon, unidentified gunmen opened fire on a SDF member in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor, wounding him.

SDF’s media center said that their fighters had arrested terrorists during two security operations.

The source said that the unknown people were chanting Allahu Akbar (God is Great), suggesting that the attack was carried out by the cells of the Islamic State (ISIS).

Since the beginning of February, Deir ez-Zor countryside has witnessed attempts to target SDF members, despite the tightened security of the Internal Security Forces (SDF).

The eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor is witnessing assassinations of members of SDF, employees of the Autonomous Administration, and tribal leaders, amid tight security by the SDF.
