Russian forces bring reinforcements to base at Syria’s Qamishli Airport

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – On Saturday, Russian forces brought new reinforcements to their military base at Qamishli International Airport.

A source from the Internal Security Forces (Asayish) accompanying the Russian convoy told North Press that the reinforcements came from the Russian base at Hmeimim Airport, south of Latakia on the Syrian coast.

The convoy consisted of several military vehicles, two BTR vehicles, and five tankers that came from the town of Ain Issa on the M4 road, passing through the town of Tel Tamr.

The source added that the convoy included logistical materials and fuel for Russian helicopters, in addition to food.

Russian and Syrian government forces deployed in areas east of the Euphrates River after an agreement with the Syrian Democratic Forces following the Turkish invasion of Sere Kaniye (Ras al-Ain) and Tel Abyad in northeast Syria in 2019.
