HTS government prevents merchants from working in Syria’s Idlib
IDLIB, Syria (North Press) – On Thursday, the Syrian Salvation Government, the political arm of Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), warned the owners of small project and stall owners in Idlib governorate that they should not practice their work except after paying the road occupancy tax.
Members of the Salvation Government have warned stall owners who stand on the sidewalks to prevent them from carrying out their work under the pretext of occupying the sidewalks and roads in the cities of Salqin and Darkush, northwest Idlib governorate, local sources told North Press.
Those members excluded people who paid the tax to the Ministry of Local Administration and Services in the Salvation Government, after most vendors were warned to remove their goods and demolish their stalls, the source added.
The source pointed out that the decision was met with a state of popular discontent in light of the difficult economic and living conditions experienced by the people in general and IDPs in particular, and most of them depend on stalls on sidewalks.
The unemployment rate in northwestern Syria reached 89%, according to the statistics of the Syria Response Coordinators team.
