Mutual bombardment between government forces and armed groups in Syria’s northwest
IDLIB, Syria (North Press) – On Wednesday, the Syrian government forces bombarded the fortifications and sites of the armed opposition groups south of Idlib and west of Aleppo, northwestern Syria.
“The government forces targeted the fortifications of the opposition groups in the villages of Binin, Bara, Kafr Uweid and Kansafra in Zawiya Mountain area, south Idlib, with artillery and missiles,” a field source told North Press.
“The government forces also shelled the town of Tuqad in the western countryside of Aleppo, amid intense flight of warplanes and drones over the area,” the source added.
On the other hand, military sources in the opposition told North Press that the al-Fateh al-Mubin Operations Room targeted a building in which government forces were holed up in the village of Malaja, south of Idlib, confirming the death and injury of several members of the government forces.
“The opposition groups targeted the government forces’ sites in the city of Saraqib and the town of Hazarin in the countryside of Idlib with heavy artillery and mortar shells,” the sources added.
Early on Wednesday, a woman died of her wounds as a result of artillery shelling by the government forces on Tuesday, on the town of Bara, south of Idlib.
The de-escalation zone in northwest Syria is witnessing military escalation between the government forces and opposition groups, amid residents’ fears of a potential military operation there.
