RAMALLAH, Palestine (North Press) – On Saturday, the Israeli newspaper, Yedioth Ahronoth said that the northern border with Lebanon is more vulnerable to explosion and escalation.
This came after the Lebanese Hezbollah fired a missile at an Israeli drone over southern Lebanon on February 3, but without hitting it.
If the missile hit the drone, would the political foundation have issued orders to the Israeli army to launch an attack on Lebanon as a response?… It seems that the answer would be yes,” the newspaper asked.
It indicated that the Israeli Air Force would have acted against the battery that launched the missile, or against targets similar to Hezbollah.
The northern border area would have deteriorated and turned into massive shootout. Perhaps worse, Hezbollah knew that if the drone was hit, Israel would respond, according to the newspaper.
It added that this indicates that the “quiet border” in the north is “the most likely to explode and the easiest to head towards escalation.”
The newspaper stated that during the 24 hours preceding the launch of the missile at the Israeli drone, media reports in Lebanon reported that there were overflights of Israeli fighter jets and drones.
The newspaper estimates that these Israeli overflights apparently came in response to exceptional activity by Hezbollah, and within the framework of all this development, the missile was launched.
