Coalition: We continue to support SDF and restore stability to Syria’s Deir ez-Zor
DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – On Thursday, the Global Coalition renewed its commitment to providing support to the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) in the war against the Islamic State (ISIS) and restoring stability to the countryside of Deir ez-Zor.
This came within a symposium which the Syrian Center for Studies and Dialogue organized under the slogan “Euphrates Dialogues,” including representatives from the Global Coalition, civil society organizations, civil figures, and notables of the Deir ez-Zor tribes.
Security and services first
The commander of the US Army Civil Affairs Team, known as “Mike,” stated that the Global Coalition will continue to support security and stability in cooperation with the SDF and the Deir ez-Zor Civil Council.
“Your voice is heard…I don’t like to make promises I can’t guarantee are going to come true,” he added.
He indicated that they will continue to work on addressing all service issues related to providing electricity, education, and healthcare in the region.
Mike said that they will not stop until a solution is found to these difficulties by working alongside the relevant institutions in the Deir ez-Zor Civil Council.
State Department Foreign Service Officer Emily Brandt stressed the continuity of her country’s policy in Syria and that there is no military solution to the crisis in the country.
No military solution
Brandt added that Washington believes that the best solution is what includes the rights of all communities of the Syrian people, and supports the implementation of UN Resolution 2254.
Brandt indicated that one of the goals of the US presence in Syria is to defeat ISIS and continue fighting it until its complete elimination, adding that US forces continue to prevent the group’s return, although that requires a lot of work.
She added that they are working on bringing children back to school and renewing services by working with all concerned authorities in the region.
Brandt expressed her appreciation for the work of civil organizations in the region.
On Thursday, co-chair of the Deir ez-Zor Civil Council Ghassan al-Youssef revealed that they are planning to restructure the Deir ez-Zor Civil Council and make new administrative divisions during the coming period.
He said in a statement to North Press that the symposium witnessed the presentation of a number of important items and a working paper consisting of thirteen items, which were later identified as recommendations.
He added that they would submit the paper to the Syrian Democratic Council (SDC) and Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria, to be included in the tasks of the Monitoring Committee of the National Conference for People of Jazira and Euphrates.
