Turkey violates international norms when targeting Syria’s Ain Issa hospital, official
AIN ISSA, Syria (North Press) – Khamlin Shahin, official at Ain Issa Hospital, northern Syria, said on Sunday, that in its recent bombing of the town, Turkey did not adhere to the hospital’s privacy and violated all international norms that stipulate not to target hospitals.
Shahin indicated that their work in the hospital is humanitarian as they serve the population of Ain Issa, away from any political consideration.
“We are bombed here within the town from time to time, and in most cases, shrapnel spread to the extent that they hit the hospital,” she added.
Shrapnel of the Turkish shelling reached the vicinity of Ain Issa Hospital, as a result of which, some of its windows were smashed.
For more than two weeks, the town of Ain Issa, 30 km north of Raqqa, and the surrounding villages have been subjected to Turkish shelling, causing injuries to civilians and damage to residents’ property.
Pressure increased on Ain Issa Hospital with the intensification of the bombing of the town by the Turkish forces and their opposition groups.
During the past week, the number of injuries reached to nine, two children of them lost their lives, while the other cases were transferred to Raqqa and Qamishli hospitals, according to Shahin.
The Turkish shelling reached civilian homes in the western part of the town, leaving many critical injuries.
The town of Ain Issa has recently witnessed a displacement of civilians, as a result of the increase in the Turkish bombardment, amid the citizens’ fear of increasing the pace of the shelling.
In October 2019, Turkey signed two ceasefire agreements with both Russia and the US, but Ain Issa is still witnessing repeated bombing and targeting.
