DERIK, Syria (North Press) – A week after the full lockdown issued by the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES) inthe city of Derik, northeastern Syria, the number of the coronavirus infections were obviously decreased.
The number of swabbed infected and suspected people decreased to the half during the past four days, Rojin Ahmad, the spokeswoman of the Health Committee in Qamishli Region, told North Press.
About 70 people were swabbed every day; however the number of swabs declined to 31 on Wednesday while it was 38 on Tuesday, Ahmad stated.
Regarding the results of the taken swabs during the past two days, they were 20 positive and 38 negative, she added.
Zinar Abdullah Ibrahim, a citizen from Derik, believed that the full lockdown decreased the number of cases by about 90%.
“Residents benefitted the lockdown as the number of the infections decreased,” Ibrahim added.
The people committed the lockdown, as they only went out to buy their needs from shops in their districts while other shops in the city center committed to the lockdown.
The security forces intensified their work in the markets and the popular neighbourhoods in Derik to curb any violation to the lockdown.
Bahda Hussein, a citizen from Derik, said that it is better to complete the lockdown as long as the risk of the coronavirus outbreak is still existed.
Meanwhile, Marwan Ibrahim, a citizen from Derik, was optimistic over the results of the full lockdown and its benefits on people.
“It is right that the lockdown affected the economic situation, but in terms of health, the results of the swabs were negative,” according to Hussein.
People committed the physical distancing during the past two weeks, which helped to decrease the number of the infections by about 90%, he stated.
The Crisis Management Team in Jazira Region issued a complete lockdown for two weeks in Derik on November 6 due to the increasing number of the infections.
The AANES Health Board announced, on Saturday, that five deaths and 190 new cases of coronavirus were recorded in its areas.
According to the new the statistics on new cases of coronavirus in the AANES regions, the number of infections has risen to 6,119, of which 158 died and 869 recovered.
