Explosion in car of SDF senior commander in Syria’s Hasakah

HASAKAH, Syria (North Press) – An explosive device (IED) exploded, on Saturday evening, in the car of the commander of the Deir ez-Zor Military Council, Abu Khawla, in the Nashwa neighborhood, south of the city Hasakah, southeastern Syria.

Abu Khawla told North Press that the explosion did not cause any human casualties, saying: “I am in good health and the damage is material only.”

Unidentified persons target military leaders in the Deir ez-Zor Military Council, employees of the Deir ez-Zor Civil Council, and civilians from time to time.

On October 29, two unknown gunmen shot Khaled al-Khalif, an official in the fuel office of the Deir ez-Zor Civil Council and his brother Aboud, member of the council of Jadidat Akidat village in Deir ez-Zor countryside.

Deir ez-Zor has been witnessing security chaos since the defeat of the Islamic State (ISIS) in the region in 2019, with explosions, ambushes, and assassination attempts targeting the SDF, members of the local administration, and even tribal figures and notables. Both local residents and administration blame ISIS, the Syrian government, and Iran for sowing discord and chaos in the area.
