Two civilians killed by gunfire east of Syria’s Deir ez-Zor

DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – Two civilians were shot to death by unknown individuals on Monday in the town of Khasham in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor, eastern Syria.

A North Press correspondent reported that unidentified individuals riding a motorcycle shot at two civilians in Syrian government-controlled Khasham, killing them.

Earlier on Monday, three tribal dignitaries travelling on the road between Jedid Akidat and al-Sabha in the Deir ez-Zor countryside were targeted by unknown persons, injuring all three men.

Deir ez-Zor has been witnessing security chaos since the defeat of the Islamic State (ISIS) in the region in 2019, with explosions, ambushes, and assassination attempts targeting the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), members of the local administration, and even tribal figures and notables. Both local residents and administration blame ISIS, the Syrian government, and Iran for sowing discord and chaos in the area.
