Many countries want Autonomous Administration to participate in Syrian negotiations: Swedish Foreign Ministry
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press)- Many countries want to involve The Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES) in Syrian negotiations, the official for Syria in the Swedish Foreign Ministry Per Orenus said on Saturday.
A Swedish government delegation, headed by Orenus, arrived on Saturday morning in northeastern Syria and was greeted by members of the Department of Foreign Relations of the Autonomous Administration.
The head of the Swedish delegation held a press conference with Abdulkarim Omar, the co-chair of the Department of Foreign Relations of AANES in Qamishli.
“The Autonomous Administration has a big role regionally and internationally,” Orenus said.
Orenus condemned the Turkish offensive on civilians and stated that his country was making efforts to stop them.
Omar said the two sides discussed several topics related to the Syrian situation, including “the humanitarian situation in northeastern Syria.”
Omar added that the humanitarian situation worsened after “the closure of the Tel Kocher (al-Yaroubiya) crossing and the implementation of Caesar Act.”
Swedish Foreign Minister Ann Linde’s visit to Turkey last week witnessed a tense discussion with the Turkish foreign minister over Turkish military operations against northeastern Syria.
“The strong position of the EU remains the same, and they continue to urge Turkey to withdraw,” Linde said in a meeting with her Turkish counterpart Mevlut Cavusoglu.
