Jordan foils four drug-smuggling attempts from Syria
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – The Jordanian army said on Wednesday it foiled four attempts to smuggle large quantities of drugs from Syria using guided balloons.
The army said in a statement that the Eastern Military Zone foiled the four attempts early Wednesday along one section of the border after border guard units detected guided balloons at several locations and brought them down inside Jordanian territory.
The operation was carried out in coordination with military security agencies and the Anti-Narcotics Administration, the army said.
The balloons were carrying nearly half a million drug pills, it added.
The seized drugs were handed over to the relevant authorities for legal action, according to the statement.
