Lifting anti-coronavirus lockdown in northeast Syria to fight recession: Official
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – “The decision to lift the lockdown in the region came to end the socially and economically paralyzed situation that started to appear as a result of imposing the complete curfew,” Mohammad Khalaf, deputy co-presidency of the Health Board in the Jazira region told North Press on Saturday.
Khalaf said, the imposition of the recent curfew aimed at preparing the population to take self-protective measures, “which took place in a large percentage.”
Khalaf mentioned, the region suffers from both the spread of the pandemic rapidly and the deterioration of the economic situation due to the imposition of the curfew and the suspension of public facilities.
“The decision to lift the lockdown is to return to normal life with the need to commit to the preventative measures for the spread of coronavirus,” he said.
Khalaf noted that the three approved centers of Derik, Allaya in Qamishli and Covid-19 Hospital in Hasakah are prepared to receive moderate and critical cases.
Regarding the shortages of these centers, Khalaf said, “The centers still need some devices for the necessary tests for people who are subject to quarantine in order to control their cases.”
Khalaf stressed on the residents, business owners, and official institutions’ employees to commit to health preventative measures, adding that most of the countries started re-activating their societies while committing to international standards.
With the close of schools opening, Khalaf said, the procedures are carried out by sterilizing schools and distributing students to two shifts, in addition to giving health awareness lectures for the students to know how to take the correct preventative measures against the disease.
On Thursday, the Autonomous Administration Crisis Management Team decided to lift the lockdown totally with an emphasis on the need to take preventative measures and maintain the rules of social distancing to limit the spread of coronavirus.
On Saturday, the Autonomous Administration Education Board announced the postponement of the opening of schools for the 2020-2021 academic year to October 4, due to the increase in the number of the infected people.
