Iraqi Parliamentarian to North Press: the Withdrawal of Diplomats Harm Iraq Economically

The Iraqi member of Parliament Sarkot Shamseddin said that the escalation of tensions between the United States and Iran has already affected Iraq, at least, at the diplomatic level.

“Iraq must remain neutral in order not to be dragged to the US-Iranian dispute” to avoid bearing the burden of the ongoing conflict between the two sides, Shamseddin told North Press.

“The withdrawal of diplomatic members from Baghdad harms the economy and the market of Iraq.” Said the Iraqi parliamentarian on the US withdrawal of its employees from Iraq because of instability.

The US embassy in Baghdad said today that the State Department ordered “non-essential government employees” in Iraq to leave immediately.

Furthermore, the US military said on Tuesday that there were imminent threats against US forces in Iraq, which are now on high alert, stressing its fears of forces backed by Iran in the region.
