New document propose Jerusalem as an “open city” – Israeli newspaper

A new document prepared in parallel with the announcement of the deal of the century suggested that Jerusalem become an open city, according to the lsraeli newspaper Haaretz.
The document questioned whether the idea of dividing Jerusalem was still valid.
According to the website of Russia Today channel quoting the Israeli newspaper, the authors of the 2003 Geneva Convention reconsidered nearly a year ago their recommendations, in which they proposed the division of Jerusalem according to the pre-1967 borders, with some amendments.
They stressed, through the document prepared in conjunction with the announcement of the U.S. President Donald Trump about his plan for peace in the Middle East, that the idea of dividing the city of Jerusalem is no longer valid.
"They also proposed a division of the two states, but keeping Jerusalem an open city, without providing any solution to the security problems that this option entails.”
Haaretz pointed out that since 2003, Geneva Initiative is considered the most realistic plan for a future agreement, despite the neglect of Israeli politicians. Unlike the Trump initiative, which is considered a general proposal with an unclear map; however, Geneva Agreement contains thousands of pages of detailed solutions to the issues that include borders, security, settlements, refugees, and Jerusalem.
The new document's point of view is expanding the open city to include whole of Jerusalem, where Israel and the new Palestinian state have sovereignty in the city.
The Palestinian capital in East Jerusalem will be without borders between the two cities, provided that Jerusalem continues to operate as one city, in close cooperation between the two sides, which requires a new legal system, according to the document.
The document proposed studying technical solutions to monitor the movement of people and goods between the two countries, even without barriers or official customs.
The U.S. President Trump recently announced the deal of the century, which he has been working on since he took power in 2017.
The U.S. plan provides a settlement for the Palestinian-Israeli conflict based on what is considered the formula of a "two-state division,” with keeping Jerusalem as a unified capital for Israel, and allocating parts of the eastern side of the city for the Palestinian capital, in addition to imposing Israeli sovereignty over Jordan Valley and settlements in the West Bank.
