Syrian Government forces continue heavy shelling on strategic town of Kabanah

Idlib – North-Press Agency

The village of Kabanah and its hills, northeast of Latakia, is being heavy shelled during Eid al-Adha days with barrel bombs and missiles by Syrian and Russian forces.

The Syrian government helicopters launched more than 50 raids with barrel bombs targeting the village and its hills, while the outskirts of the village were subjected to Russian air strikes, according to North-Press reporter.

The village of Kabanah separates coastal areas from Idlib governorate, while it’s considered as gateway from the west, while it overlooks al-Ghab Plain, Jisr al-Shughur and the Turkish borders, and a large part of Idlib, Hama, and Latakia governorates.

Strategic Village
For months, the Syrian government has been trying to advance on the axis of Latakia countryside and storm the strategically important village of Kabanah, amid opposition groups talks about losses in the ranks and equipment of Syrian government forces.

Russia and the Syrian government desperately want to control the area, as it allows the controlling side to monitor large areas of the western countryside of Hama and Idlib, as well as the villages of the northern countryside of Latakia.

Al-Habeet
In a related context, this coincides with fierce battles in Idlib and Hama northern countryside days ago, which led to the Syrian government’s control over of the town of al-Habeet, the major town in the southern Idlib countryside.

The Lebanese Hizbullah Military Media Units described al-Habeet, as the gateway to the southern Idlib countryside, and to the main highway between Damascus and Aleppo and to the town of Khan Shaykhun.

It’s noteworthy that the Syrian government forces had resumed last week their attack on the southern countryside of Idlib after the collapse of the cease-fire which was declared unilaterally by Damascus.
