SDF special units capture an ISIS official in Hasakah

Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) have announced the capture of an Islamic State official (Amir), and a sleeper-cell member in southern Hasakah, north-eastern Syria.

The SDF Center for Coordination and Military Operations has revealed in an official tweet that their special forces forces, in cooperation with the U.S.-led Global Coalition to fight ISIS, have arrested the so-called “Abu Tayeb” in a special security operation in the town of al-Markada, south of Hasakah, at today’s early hours.

Abu Tayeb is “one of the Islamic State group’s leaders, who was in charge of planting IEDs in Hasakah to target civilians,” the center indicated.

The coordination center or official accounts of the SDF which circulated the news, did not reveal the real name or nationality of Abu Tayeb.

The SDF, in cooperation with the Global Coalition Forces, conduct ongoing security operations against ISIS sleeper cells who are active and heavily spread in north and eastern Syria, especially in bordering areas.
