Massive explosion in Afrin city leaves dozens dead and injured

Yesterday, Tuesday, an explosion killed more than 40 people and injured dozens of others occurred in the city of Afrin in northern Syria.

Local sources told North-Press that an explosion in the city center killed more than 40 people and injured dozens.

The official Turkish news agency Anadolu said that the explosion was caused by a “bomb explosion in a truck”, while the Turkish Ministry of Defense announced that at least 35 people were killed as a result of an “explosive device detonation” in the city of Afrin, northern Syria.

Syrian opposition media reported that 15 people were killed as a result of the bombing, which took place in a crowded and popular market, especially in the month of Ramadan.

Medical sources expected that the death toll may increase, as “dozens of the injured are in a critical situation.”  

In the meantime, an explosive device exploded on the Trinda Road in Afrin city on Tuesday morning, causing material damage without casualties.  

The region of Afrin, which is under the control of Turkish military and its affiliated armed opposition groups, witness occasional explosions that result in casualties. In early February, the city witnessed an explosion that left a number of dead and injured.
