On Sunday, the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) announced that they have taken control of one of the largest prisons in which ISIS members are being detained, after a daylong insurrection and negotiations between the SDF and the Global Coalition on the one hand, and ISIS members on the other.
In a press statement published on their official website, SDF spokesperson Kino Gabriel said that members of ISIS carried out an insurrection in a prison in Hasakah city.
Gabriel said that after the doors of the dorms and corridors were removed, ISIS members took control of the prison. The matter led the SDF special forces and counterterrorism forces to intervene.
Gabriel added that the insurrection, which lasted for a full day, was brought under control after joint negotiations between representatives of the SDF and the Global Coalition forces on the one hand and members of ISIS on the other, though the SDF did not reveal additional details about the negotiations.
The SDF demanded the “international community” bear the responsibility to find a solution to the issue of ISIS detainees and provide more support.
The same prison, which contains thousands of ISIS detainees, witnessed a similar insurrection in March, which was brought under control hours later.
