Kobani residents intercept joint Russian-Turkish patrol in northern Syria

KOBANI, Syria (North Press) – The residents of Jarqeli Foqani and Qeran villages, in the southern Kobani countryside, intercepted a joint Russian-Turkish patrol on Monday, throwing stones at the Turkish vehicles.

The Monday patrol is the fourth of its kind south of Kobani, and the 24th since Russian president Putin and his Turkish counterpart Erdogan reached a memorandum of understanding on October 22 which included conducting joint patrols in northeast Syria 10km from the border, excluding Qamishli city.

The patrol, which consisted of eight Turkish military vehicles accompanied by two Russian helicopters, started from Ashma, 20km south Kobani, and travelled through a number of villages, finally heading towards a check point of the internal security forces (Asayish) in the Izaa area west Kobani.

The patrol returned to the starting point in Ashma village, passing by a number of villages.

Turkish military vehicles entered through a gate near Ashma village, while Russian vehicles returned to their base in the Izaa area.
