U.S. decision will cause massacres in the region – SDF Press Office

Mustafa Bali, the head of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) Press Office, has told North-Press that the United States President’s decision to withdraw his troops from northeastern Syria would “reignite the war in the region”.

Mustafa Bali said in a statement to North-Press that “the White House decision doesn’t serve the solution in Syria, but deepens more the conflict and the crisis,” pointing out that the Islamic State (ISIS) will benefit from the security vacuum that will occur, and to strengthen and regroup itself.

“The Syrian regime, Iran and Russia will also benefit from this withdrawal, as the war will reignite,” Bali said.

The head of the SDF Press Office added that the decision will increase the possibility of massacres in the region, saying: “Afrin is still in front of the eyes of people‬.” He pointed out that the region includes many minorities, Assyrians, Syriacs “who still remember Seyfo massacres. Armenians and Yezidis who will be at risk of Genocide,” he added. 

“If Turkey uses indiscriminate tanks and artillery shelling, the lives of more than 5 million people would be at risk, hundreds of thousands of civilians could lose their lives as a result of the shelling,” Bali noted.

“The U.S. decision is wrong, which did not fulfill its duty to the region, did not find a political solution, but withdrew its troops and ignited the war,” he added.

The White House has said in a statement earlier today that it would not intervene if Turkey launched an assault on areas of northeastern Syria, and withdrew its troops from a number of points in the towns of Tal Abyad and Sere Kaniye (Ras al-Ain).

The U.S. President Donald Trump said on Twitter: “It is time for us to get out of these ridiculous Endless Wars. We are 7000 miles away and will crush ISIS again if they come anywhere near us!”
