Health Authority in northeast Syria buries coronavirus dead with precautionary measures in Syria’s north Aleppo

ALEPPO, Syria (North Press) – The Co-chair of Health Authority in the Autonomous Administration, Hevin Hussein, said that a specialist medical team has buried the bodies of those deceased from coronavirus and placed them in marked graves.

In a special statement, she told North Press on Saturday that the medical team implemented precautionary measures by wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) according to standard precautions (gloves, disposable gowns, masks, eye protection and disposable shoes) before sterilization of the body.

"They sterilize the body, place it in a nylon bag and sterilize it then they place it in a blue bag and sterilize it to be ready for burial," Hussein confirmed.

The body is transported by ambulance to the marked grave, "where it is placed in a grave two meters deep that is sterilized with Bio-Pack," according to Hussein.

"Two relatives  and members of the village council, wearing PPE, attended the burial," the co-chair added.

Hussein confirmed that "we bury the body according to tradition, but we do not hand it over to the family to avoid the physical contact according to our traditions (kissing and embracing of the body) in order not to spread the virus."

During the current month, Autonomous Administration has marked a special place for infected bodies to be buried in.

Areas in the northern Aleppo countryside have recorded 14 infections with coronavirus, including two deaths. The number of infections in the Autonomous Administration areas of Syria has reached 101, after the recording of 14 cases on Sunday.
