One death; 16 new cases of coronavirus in northeast Syria

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press)- The Health Authority of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria announced on Saturday the death of a coronavirus patient and the recording of 16 new cases in its regions.

The official account of the Autonomous Administration on Facebook quoted the co-chair of the Health Authority, Jiwan Mustafa, as confirming 16 new coronavirus infections in the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria and the death of one of the cases in the city of Hasakah.

Mustafa said that the new cases are 11 in Hasakah, three in Qamishli, one in Der ez-Zor and one in Kobani.

He confirmed the death of one infected case in Hasakah city, an 83 year old man.

The Autonomous Administration announced on Friday two deaths from coronavirus, one in the northern countryside of Aleppo and the second in Tel Kocher, hours after the announcement of 12 new cases.

The statistics on new infections with coronavirus in the Autonomous Administration regions rise to 82 cases, including four deaths and one recovery.

In a statement to North Press, the head of the Health Authority said that he expects a spike in infections at the end of August, confirming that the lockdown aims to delay the outbreaks.
