Autonomous Administration announces new preventative measures against the spread of coronavirus
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – The Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria announced new precautionary measures on Sunday to prevent the spread of coronavirus in its regions, and decided to completely close crossings and prevent the entry of funerals. The decision excluded students until the end of the exam period.
The Executive Council of the Administration approved the closure of all border crossings with its regions completely, starting from Monday, and stressed that every humanitarian case entering its areas after this date will go into quarantine to prevent the spread of the coronavirus.
The decision included "preventing the entry of funerals due to the coronavirus pandemic" to its areas, and called for maintaining physical separation in condolence tents, weddings, places of worship, and major gatherings.
The decision excluded students in Syrian universities and institutes until the end of exam period, taking all necessary medical and health measures while travelling.
Meanwhile, the administration of the Semalka border crossing with the Kurdistan Region of Iraq announced that the crossing will be closed from tomorrow, Monday, and that the funerals of dead due to coronavirus will be prevented from entering northeastern Syria.
Earlier, on the 21st of March, the Autonomous Administration approved the complete lockdown, and closed all the crossings and institutions. They later lifted all procedures in late May, emphasizing the adoption of preventative and sanitary measures, and maintaining physical distancing.
