On Thursday, the Syrian government team concerned with combating coronavirus announced a set of measures to tackle the virus outbreak during the Eid al-Fitr (the religious holiday that marks the end of Ramadan) period.
The government team decided, after a meeting with the Syrian Council of Ministers, to keep borders closed, with the possibility of imposing a complete lockdown in the country "according to the variables related to the virus." This is according to the official Facebook page of the Council of Ministers.
It was also decided to continue the current evening curfew into the Eid al-Fitr period, from 7:30 in the evening until 6:00 in the morning, provided that the night ban times immediately after Eid are modified to be from six in the evening until six in the morning.
The government team canceled the travel ban imposed between the governorates from the 19th to the 30th of May.
Eid gatherings such as children's play halls, as well as social events such as weddings, wakes, and funerals, are also prohibited. Tourist facilities, restaurants, cafes, and public utilities continue to be closed.
The Damascus Stock Exchange was open for trade throughout the week.
On May 10th, the government team previously allowed the resumption of movement of all mass transport, tourist transport company buses, and transportation between rural and urban areas, with adherence to "health and safety requirements".
The government team has set the 31st of May as the date for the re-opening of universities and institutes.
