Orphanage opens in Aleppo’s Sheikh Maqsoud neighborhood

Recently, the General Council of the Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafiyah neighborhoods, under the auspices of the Kurdish Red Crescent, have opened the first orphanage in Sheikh Maqsoud.

The orphanage currently has four girls, the oldest of which is ten and the youngest of which is five. Before the orphanage’s opening, a family took care of them.

Co-chair of the Childhood Care of Orphans Organization Mustafa Seydo indicated to North-Press that the organization accepted four children from Kongra-STAR (a women's organization in North and East Syria), providing them with all necessities including food, shelter, and education, in addition to a special caretaker to care for them.

"We authorized the Martyr Khaled Fajer Hospital Zibary Laboratory to look after them," he added.

Seydo clarified that the importance of the orphanage opening in the area is due to the necessity of having a care center for orphans and homeless children who may be neglected in the shadow of the crisis the country is experiencing.

He stated that the Kurdish Red Crescent is responsible for the costs and are ready to receive all homeless orphans from all components of society. At the same time, he appeals to charities and organizations for help improving the center.

The organization seeks to empower and educate kids and send them to schools, in addition to preparing development programs, providing training fields, and taking care of them until they are independent legal adults. The organization has an internal system in which they manage the center and they are ready to receive children at all times.

Every day, nearly 10,000 kids are orphaned due to war, conflict, and famine, according to the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF).

Out of one million children who have fled to neighboring countries, 8,000 of them are displaced alone, without their families.
