Health Board in Qamishli quarantines passengers coming from Damascus for second time in three days

The Health Authority of al-Jazira region put seven travelers from the city of Damascus into quarantine after their arrival at the city's airport, yesterday on Tuesday.

The Deputy co-presidency of the Health Board, Muhammad Abdulaziz Khalaf, said that all arrivals were subjected to medical examinations, such as a thermal test and a test with a kit, and then were transferred to quarantine.

On Sunday, the Autonomous Administration sent 19 passengers coming from Damascus to a quarantine in Havana Hotel, which is adjacent to Qamishli Airport.

In his statement to North-Press, Khalaf said that one of the passengers who had been quarantined in the first batch coming from Damascus last Sunday suffered from cancer, and he was provided with the necessary medical procedures, while the other arrivals who came on Tuesday will be placed with the other 18 people, making their number in the designated hotel 25.  

He confirmed that those arriving at the airport will spend 14 days in quarantine, according to the decision of the Autonomous Administration.

Informed sources told North-Press that a number of passengers arriving at Qamishli Airport tried to escape the Health Board's teams at al-Basil Roundabout near the airport, trying to move through the Syrian government-controlled al-Tayy neighborhood, but Internal Security Forces returned them to the medical examination point.  

There is no information about the full number of the arrivals coming from Damascus through Qamishli Airport on Tuesday, but seven passengers were subjected to quarantine, the majority of whom were women.  

Civil flights had been stopped through Qamishli Airport, but Russian-made Ilyushin military cargo planes transported members of government forces from Damascus to Qamishli along with a number of civilians for the second time since the announcement of the lockdown by the Autonomous Administration on March 23rd as a precautionary measure to prevent the outbreak of coronavirus in the region.

 

According to the Ministry of Health of the Syrian government, the number of those infected with coronavirus has reached 19, two of which have died, while no cases have been reported in the Autonomous Administration areas yet.
