The Syrian National Coalition (SNC) has called on representatives of friendly countries for supporting the Turkish observation posts presence in the Syrian territories, and has prompted their governments to intervene in order to stop the attacks on Idlib, as well as the international community to protect the civilians.
The head of the coalition Anas al-Abdeh called on the countries’ representatives to urge their governments to work for a complete cessation of military actions, to return to compliance with Idlib agreement, and to support the Turkish observation posts presence.
During a meeting with representatives of friendly countries of the Syrian people at the coalition headquarters in Istanbul on Friday, al-Abdeh stressed that the international community failed to fulfill its duties in protecting the civilians in Syria.
He said: “All countries must assume their responsibilities and correct their mistakes,” he also called for launching an international appeal to provide urgent humanitarian support to the IDPs, while he warned of new waves of displacement.
The Interim Government President Rahman Mustafa, while reviewing the new plan for the government’s work, noted that, “there is an urgent need to support the plan and activate it in real programs of action that serve the civilians.”
The head of the Syrian negotiating committee Nasr al-Hariri reviewed the political process developments and the news regarding launching the constitutional committee work.
Al-Hariri stressed the importance of returning to the political process and the implementation of international resolutions, especially the Declaration of Geneva and the United Nations Security Council Resolution 2254,” warning of the failure to fulfill the humanitarian provisions mentioned in the UN resolutions.
In May 2017, Turkey, Russia and Iran announced that they had reached an agreement of “de-escalation zone” in Idlib, as a part of the Astana meetings on Syria.
The Turkish Minister of Foreign Affairs Mevlut Cavusoglu said that his country would withdraw from Syria if a political solution was reached, and that Russia had pledged that the Syrian government forces won’t attack its observation posts in de-escalation zones in the northwest.
