The US Department of Defense announced on Friday that the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) has proved its commitment to support the implementation of the security mechanism, as it started dismantling its fortifications in the proposed area in north Syria which both Ankara and Washington had agreed to establish.
In a statement on Twitter which was released by the US Central Command that “within 24 hours of a telephone conversation between the US Secretary of Defense and his Turkish counterpart about the security in northeastern Syria, the SDF has started dismantling its fortifications”.
The US Central Command has attached photographs with the statement which showed the process of blasting fortifications with the presence of US soldiers.
According to the Pentagon, the US Defense Secretary Mark Esper and the Turkish one Hulusi Akar announced during their phone call last Thursday that the mechanism which was agreed upon between the US and Turkey would secure the borders between Syria and Turkey.
For its part, Damascus has categorically rejected the US-Turkish agreement, considering it as a violation of Syria’s sovereignty, its territorial integrity and a violation of the international law.
