Manbij Military Council: Manbij Roadmap model a good basis for safe zone establishment in northern Syria

Manbij Military Council spokesman Shervan Darwish confirmed yesterday that Manbij roadmap model is a good basis for the agreement to establish a safe zone northern Syria, noting that the announced agreement between Washington and Ankara doesn’t give much details yet, but has shortened the general framework of the region to be established.

In a special statement to “North Press”, Mr Darwish explained that “There is no credibility of the promotions made by Turkey,” noting that Turkey promoted many things during Manbij Roadmap Agreement.

Darwish pointed out that there are still joint patrols between the US-led Global Coalition and Turkey on the separating line of the fronts in Manbij, stressing that Manbij Military Council believes that any agreement or step that serves to ensure the stability of the region is “positive”.

“We still need a lot of inquiries and answers in order to say the last word,” he added, noting that they did not pose any danger or threat to Turkey, but “the Turkish side has always threatened to hit the stability of the region and pave the way for other things.”

On the other hand, the Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu said on Thursday that Turkey will not allow a delay in the safe zone operation, which it’s seeking to establish in Syria with the Americans, making it receive the same fate as the city of Manbij.

Manbij Roadmap was an agreement reached by NATO members last year that provided the withdrawal of YPG fighters from the entire area of Manbij.

Three days after the US-Turkish talks, a statement was issued by the US Embassy in Ankara, explaining that Turkey and the United States have reached an agreement to establish a “safe corridor” and a joint operations center to be established northern Syria on the border with Turkey in order to manage the area, stating that the headquarters of the operations center will be based in Turkey, and will be established as soon as possible.
