“We’re facing a serious and difficult Phase,” NE Syria senior official

The northeastern cities of Qamishli and Hasakah of Al-Jazira region have recently witnessed a series of explosions, resulting in injuries and material damage.

In an exclusive statement to North-Press regarding the latest terrorist explosions, Kanaan Barakat, the co-chair of the Interior Affairs Board of the Autonomous Administration in North and East Syria, said that the Internal Security Forces were facing “A serious and difficult phase” in encountering such terrorist attacks and that they are preparing “Stability and sustainability preserving plans” in the region.

Barakat added that hostile parties of the Autonomous Administration, especially the Islamic State militants (ISIS), “are trying to spread terror and destabilize the internal security by bombing operations in areas of north and eastern Syria”.
Barakat said that these sides aim at “sending messages that the region is unstable and to give a bad reflection about it,” referring to the areas of north and eastern Syria.

Moreover, the co-chair of the Interior Affairs Board said that the internal security forces insist on achieving security and stability for all of the components in the region, and that the VBIED explosion in front of Virgin Mary church of the Syriac Orthodox in Al-Wusta neighborhood in Qamishli “has targeted an essential component of the Autonomous Administration,” noting the continuation of the investigations to figure out the circumstances of the terrorist attack.

He also called on all citizens to cooperate and report any “suspected movements,” stressing that “the security forces are responsible for security, but the cooperation of all citizens plays a significant role”.

A series of bombings hit the region on Thursday, as the explosion in front of Virgin Mary church of the Syriac Orthodox in Qamishli was of the largest, in addition to three successive bombings in Hasakah governorate in northeastern Syria.
