North and east Syria administration hand over US citizens to their country’s government
North and east Syria administration declared on Wednesday, two women with ties to IS and six children have been repatriated to the United States.
A spokesman for the Department of Foreign Relations in the Democratic Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria said the two women were handed over “at the request of the US government, based on the commitment of Autonomous Administration to principles and international conventions of human rights, and the free and voluntary desire of the American citizens.”
The administration confirmed that repatriating them to their country was “without any pressure or coercion”.
The Autonomous Administration recently repatriated Sudanese and Uzbek-Russian women and children, who were involved in the ranks of IS Organization, to their country’s governments.
The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) hold thousands of foreigners who were arrested during their fight against IS.
According to estimates by international organizations in Al-Hol refugees’ camp, east of Al-Hasaka, there are citizens from 40 different nationalities. They are in their own section in the camp, including about 3500 children.
The SDF and North and East Syria Administration have repeatedly called on the origin countries of the detainees to take them back because they cannot be hold captive forever. Moreover, they proposed the formation of an international court to deal with the detainees’ cases.
However, this proposal was not much welcomed.
